Belgium vs Egypt

In the first duel for the underdog title, Belgium Played with Egypt in Season 15th World Cup Championship Eight-Finals. Although Egypt is the host, Belgium was the home team .

Egypt was looking forward to make the best out of it achievement by reaching the WC finals and make it to the Quarter-Finals for the first time in its PM history. Belgium entered the match with hopes to surprise everyone and take out the Egyptian team on its homeland. Words were going around about the Egyptians having a squad advantage, the predictions went equally for both teams though. Belgium started the game with a balanced formation 4-3-3 with midfielders and forwards distributed in the three sides. Egypt played with a defensive formation 4-5-1 with a left forward. The match was pretty open and the on goal activity was pretty dense 18 shots with 13 on goal is a good sign that the match was head to head. Egypt -despite its defensive formation- had the upper hand with 10 shots 7 on goal while Belgium’s triple forwards did 8 shots 6 on goal. Possession was 60% for Belgium in the first half but Egypt managed to decrease Belgium’s dominance on the field during the second half to 55% Belgium 45% Egypt and both teams still failed to score. There wasn’t much action during extra-time except for the injury of Egypt’s only striker Slawomir Darwish at 117’. Then came the super random luck based penalty shoot outs with Egypt having 1 forward while Belgium had all 5 after some last minute substitutions by wesleystevens. Unfortunately for him, The 6th Belgian midfielder Julien Keymis was the one who gave the victory to Egypt through the defender Mohsen Tharwat’s turn. So let’s hear it for the Egyptian midfielders and defender for not missing out on penalties .

Spain vs Greece (0-1)

Posted: April 21, 2011 in Eight Finals, Games

In an evenly matched game with nice weather and predictions in favor of Spain’s victory. Greece stood against all odds and grabbed the victory from the Spanish team.

Spain played with a formation 5-2-3 with side midfielders and spread out forwards. Greece played a literal Man to Man formation 3-2-5 with side midfielders and spread out defenders! That was an unusual formation to play with and a risky decision in a world cup match, but luckily it paid off at minute 76’ when Iakovos Katsikas scored from Kitsos Karkampasis’s excellent pass. Although the ball possession in the first half showed that Spain has more control of the match with 60%. During the game, both teams did 3 shots and 1 shot on goal, only Greece’s shot went in though. Beside the identical formations, both teams had exactly the same tactics open. And both played MOTS. Greece depended on direct passing so the ball is always away from their defence.
